Press Release

- The Maranchón Complex is one of the company's flagship facilities and has received visitors from five continents

- Inaugurated in January 2009 in the town of Maranchón, the facility is designed to teach the area's schools about key aspects of renewable energies

- Visitors obtain hands-on experience with various clean energies and tour the Maranchón wind farm, Spain's largest

- The Maranchón energy classroom is the IBERDROLA subsidiary's fourth in Castile-La Mancha, after Higueruela (Albacete), Sisante (Cuenca) and Villacañas (Toledo)

IBERDROLA RENOVABLES has hosted 2,000 visitors in the first six months since its Maranchón, Guadalajara, energy classroom opened. Of these, one-third came from schools in the province while the other 67% hailed from learning centres in the Madrid region.

In August, once the school term has ended, IBERDROLA RENOVABLES will organise ten classroom visits for the main associations in the Maranchón area, with more than 300 persons expected to attend.

Besides providing a venue for the energy-classroom events, the Maranchón Complex has become a showcase for cutting-edge wind power technology, drawing visitors from all five continents.

In fact, in recent months the facility has been visited by companies such as Chile-based Neo Energia, and Japan-based Tepco (Tokyo Electric Power Corporation), as well as a Brazilian business delegation and politicians, including members of China's National Energy Commission and Colombian and Bulgarian government delegations; and media like National Geographic, Belgian business daily De Tijd and Spanish television stations TVE, Telemadrid, Antena 3 and La Sexta.

The Guadalajara energy classroom is the fourth facility of its kind operated by IBERDROLA RENOVABLES in Castile-La Mancha, after those in Higueruela (Albacete), Sisante (Cuenca) and Villacañas (Toledo), which have had close to 60,000 visitors to date.

The aim of this innovative classroom in Maranchón's town centre is to show visitors the key features of the various types of renewable energies in a seminar combining theory and practice.

Visiting this IBERDROLA subsidiary's site takes about four hours and comprises two modules, a classroom session followed by a tour of the wind-farm complex.

In the classroom, visitors are given a primer on the world of energy, discussing the various primary and secondary sources, environmental impacts, transport and distribution, and different types of energy resources.

Visitors can also attend a workshop and participate in hands-on activities related to energy and tour an exhibit of scale models illustrating various renewable energies. Lastly, they are shown an informational video on the facilities' development and roll-out.

At the Maranchón wind-farm complex, meanwhile, a tour of the facility includes on-site screen displays that explain the workings, key features and specific characteristics of this flagship wind-farm complex.

The Maranchón Complex is Spain's largest wind farm, with 104 wind turbines, each of which produces 2 MW and are over 80 metres in height. The farm produces 500,000 MWh annually, enough to meet the electricity needs of 590,000 people a year. Furthermore, it has outstanding environmental credentials, avoiding 430,000 tonnes of emissions annually.

By opening the Guadalajara energy classroom, IBERDROLA RENOVABLES underscores its commitment to developing renewable energies in Castile-La Mancha while contributing to its residents' education and social well-being.
